Postpartum Care

You’ve rested, you’ve showered, your baby has had its first meal (or two!), your nurse has gone over your postpartum instructions, and you are now ready to continue your rest and recovery in the most comfortable place of all – your home.

The midwives will stay in close contact with you, calling you regularly the first week to provide postpartum support, and within 24-48 hours following the birth, a nurse or midwife will come to your home to check on you and your baby, complete a physical exam on the two of you, assist you with breastfeeding and answer any questions you may have. The Newborn Screening and Critical Congenital Heart Defect screening (CCHD) can be performed at this time in the comfort of your home.

In addition to your home visit, a 2-week postpartum appointment at the birth center as well as a 6-week postpartum appointment at the birth center will be scheduled for you.

We invite you to stay connected and continue to be supported in our New Moms Support Group for Moms and their babies, ages 2 weeks-4 months. In addition, we offer a wide range of classes of interest to families during the first exciting year of parenthood.
